Net Neutrality and The Great Disconnect - Dec 7th 2017

Most of us out here, who have spent time on the web, have heard of the conflicts around Net Neutrality.  If you haven't heard much about this topic, I urge you to have a look at dailydot.com's article of who's lobbying against Net Neutrality.  Anti Net Neutrality have several businesses supporting it:

  1. Verizon Communications
  2. AT&T Inc
  3. Comcast Corp
  4. National Cable & Telecommunications Assn
  5. National Music Publishers Assn
  6. Time Warner Cable

So a few questions...

Who of you has received crazy price gouging on their cable bill?

What about price gouging on your cell phone bills?

Did you answer "Me" to any of these questions?  Do you see the name of the business in this list?

I'm guessing probably 60%-75% of the people who land on this post will have said "Me" to at least one of the questions above.  Likely 70%-80% of those people will find that one or more of these businesses as the culprit.

Now...  Do you want these people, who are spending millions, making a new loop hole, a new way, to make you spend even more money?  On the same services you get today?

How do we really fix it?

The Great Disconnect

These businesses don't actually believe that we truly can boycott them.  We really don't need to have their service.  There are competitors out there.  And if you do find out that you absolutely need them, take a moment to think about that...  What happens when they have even more freedom to charge you even more of your hard earned income for exactly what you have today...  Or less of what you have today, but you still pay more?

December 7th there's protests all over the United States at Verizon stores.  Protesting Congress repealing/killing/changing the current Net Neutrality protections.  But there's more we can do on December 7th.

Disconnect from at least one of these services.  You don't even have to disconnect from them all.

Pick one or more of the services you have, that come directly from these companies. Call today, and ask to have your account disconnected on December 7th.  Or disconnect sooner, disconnect later.  But around December 7th...  Just disconnect.

Maybe you're off cable TV for a few days while you switch to someone else's service (not one of these guys though!).  Maybe you have to simply rely on your cell phone service but you cut your Cable TV.

Pick something.  And disconnect.  It's really that simple.  If these companies don't want to play fair, then let's just not play with them.  Will it be annoying at times?  Sure.  Will life go on?  Yep.  It sure will.  Give it a shot.

Keep in mind...  No one is stopping you from renewing your service from these very companies indefinitely.  Maybe you just abstain so to speak for a month.  Maybe two weeks.  Maybe a few days.  Think about your own life.  What happens if you lost a month of income?  What if you lost 25% of your income for a month?  It'd hurt!  For these guys... their investors would get mad too and yell at'em.  So, there's that for bonus points.

In the end, we all know businesses care about one thing and one thing only.  Taking your money.  So...  Hit'em where it hurts.  Stop giving it to them.

Personally, I've lost faith in Cable providers long ago.  They're one of the greatest money hogs in the world.  And frankly... I don't need it.  I've cut my cable service out this year.  What about you?

(P.S. Yes, i probably have typo's, yes my grammar probably sucks.  I'm not an editor, nor an author, nor any other great influential or wonderful writer.  Just a regular Joe... or... Jack...  it would seem...)
